Calistoga Residence and Winery

The Calistoga Residence and Winery project consists of the reinvigoration of a dilapidated winery on a historic nineteenth century residential property in Napa Valley, California. The existing cluster of buildings is located on a hillside with panoramic views of Mount Saint Helena, accessed by a long, winding driveway that makes its way through a forested area and ends at a flat clearing between a steep ravine falling away to the north, and a hillside vineyard rising to the south.

The project supports continued use of the former winery site for both residential and winery purposes including planning and use permit procurement for a future winery as well as the preservation of several original structures on the property. Preservation work includes the restoration of the historic Cole residence into a new 2,400 sf guest house, the restoration of the original house on the property into a new 600 sf study and the rehabilitation of the existing long barn into a new 4,500 sf pergola and storage facility for the future winery. The existing historic structures were carefully restored to their original nineteenth century footprint and appearance, pursuant to the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
