San Francisco Residence

The renovation of the San Francisco Residence involved an extensive seismic upgrade and complete interior remodel of a historic landmark 1924 home, originally designed by renowned San Francisco theater architect Gustave Albert Lansburgh. The interior was redesigned with clean, contemporary lines and large, open, naturally-lit rooms with ample wall space to house the client’s expansive modern art collection. The modern interior contrasts with the historic exterior while providing an elegant backdrop for the art collection.

Design features include a Donald Judd-inspired, cantilevered stone staircase with hammered bronze railing adjacent to a large double height entry hall with skylight. The interior includes five bedrooms and six baths complete with wine cellar, home office, his and her dressing rooms, a large family room and open kitchen, as well as spacious living and dining areas both with wood-burning fireplaces. Other amenities include a gallery, sauna, exercise room and game room with wet bar and fireplace. Exterior modifications include all new windows, new cement plaster and paint, addition of two-story bay window and cantilevered balconies, new landscaping with site retaining walls and courtyard with Jacuzzi spa. The project was designed to accommodate a future elevator and outdoor lap pool.
