Marina Residence

Marina-04.jpg

This landmark property, located on a prominent corner lot in San Francisco’s coveted Marina District, has endured a number of poorly-executed additions and remodels over the years since it was first built in 1924. In a collaboration between Quino Designs and JBP Architects, the street-facing façades were restored to their 1924 configuration and the original sense of order and symmetry reinstated. At the same time, the main entry stair was reconfigured and the residence was lifted to provide additional habitable space on the lower level and incorporate a second dwelling unit that will increase San Francisco’s diminished housing stock. A full interior renovation and contemporary addition on the rear of the residence touch lightly on the existing structure and provide expanded living space for the the client’s growing family. JBP Architects and Quino Designs worked closely with neighbors and city planning staff to minimize the visibility of the new addition from the public right-of-way and maintain the historic character of the residence and neighborhood district.
